Part 2 of Common Core’s Big Brother STEM http://wp.me/p4D0Vn-h
Back in the 80’s you think SpaceCamp you think of this fine uplifting film.
Many in aerospace today were motivated by this film.
Space Camp is the brainchild of rocket scientist, Dr. Wernher von Braun. Von Braun led propulsion activities that launched the Apollo-era U.S. manned space program and envisioned an aggressive schedule for America’s space-bound pioneers. Von Braun, then director of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, reasoned there should be an experience for young people who were excited about space. Under the guidance of Edward O. Buckbee, the first director of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Space Camp was born.
But times have changed.
The Space Shuttle is no more, and new motivations are the order of the day.
This article caught my eye; and begs the question what have we become?
“representatives for the U.S. Space & Rocket Center announced Thursday that its newly updated Space Camp will allow children to simulate the anger and mounting frustration experienced by NASA personnel over a continual lack of funding.”
“We put camp attendees in the shoes of dedicated NASA scientists whose attempts to further scientific understanding through the analysis of asteroid composition are halted by one of our camp staffers playing the role of a U.S. senator targeting all ‘nonessential’ initiatives,” said counselor Tyler Campbell.
This might be called indoctrination not motivation?
Is this the Hope and Change people voted for?
